This is a day to acclimatize to the higher elevation of 3,440 meters. Health officials advise the best way to acclimatize is to remain active. There will be a short day trek to Thame (3,493 meters) or Khunde (3,840 meters), or simply to relax and explore the community of Namche Bazaar. This is a great day to learn more about the Sherpa culture as well as visiting the local museums. Nearby there is also the highest Buddhist monastery in the world, which houses a scalp of a yeti. We will again spend the night in Namche Bazaar

The trail today is more gradual with opportunities to observe the wildlife of the forests of the high Himalayas. The last part of the trail does get steep for a short distance until we reach Tengboche. This village offers close-up views of a number of mountains, plus the largest Buddhist monastery in the Khumba region. Today's trek is 5 – 6 hours.

At Dusa, the valley begins to narrow and past Phulung Karpo, the campsite of the first successful climb of Mt. Everest (8,848 meters). The trail skirts Mt. Pumori (7,138 meters) and passes Chola Lake. The trek ends 3 -4 hours later at Duglha so we can further acclimatize.

Day 15
Today's trek takes us across the Khumbu Glacier as we see several magnificent mountain peaks: Khumbutse (6,665 meters), Lingtren (6,749 meters), Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. We are near Mt. Everest, but it is now hidden from view by these other mountains. Today's trek is 2 – 4 hours, intentionally kept short because of the higher elevation as we reach the village of Lobuche.

Day 16
Mt. Everest finally comes back in view today as you will see the north ridge while continuing the trek over the Khumbu Glacier and later the Changri Glacier where the latter offers a 360° view of the Himalayas. The trail continues to Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters). There is no place to stay at Everest Base Camp, so we return to Gorak Shep.

Day 17
Today we achieve our destination. We begin early for an inspiring view of sunrise over Mt. Everest (8,848 meters) as the morning rays hit the snowcapped peak. Mornings are cold (-10° to -14° C) with even colder winds. However, the view more than compensates for any discomfort from the cold winds off the snowcapped peaks. We will return to Gorak Shep for breakfast and then begin our return trip. The trek down to Pheriche is a gradual descend where we spend the night. Trekking time is 7 – 8 hours.
